(The Chris Hodges Band x Awesome) + Last Saturday = Too Much Fun!

So, we played the gig at The Grand in Dothan on Saturday for The Wiregrass Church of Dothan's Date Night/ Afterparty event-thingy. I have to say that was the most fun I've had playing for an event in Dothan. We weren't out in the blazing sun this time. I felt like we were generally entertaining and people seemed to enjoy it. People were actually paying attention to us. Not that it hasn't happened before but ususally when we play events like this (background music) we don't get noticed as much. Usually it's about 4-5 people who even pay us any mind. This time, there were a lot more...and some of them danced. It was a great deal of fun for me to say the least. And it's not like we didn't load the deck a little. Chris and his wife are regular members of the church and I had some friends show up (even though I don't think I was supposed to...Thanks Art and Kim). So, we had home team advantage.

I hesitate to say this because for those who know me, I'm not very good at "tooting my own horn" so to speak, but I think I played fairly well, minus a couple hic-ups (Cb, really?). I was pretty comfortable. I wasn't happy with everything I played but generally speaking, I didn't totally suck...I think. I do need to revamp a great deal though. And of course Eric, Chris and Rusty were spectacular. They were just on it, as usual. It's always a pleasure to here Rusty play. I'm a big fan of how Eric mixes it up a lot, even if it's not on purpose. And Chris goes from solid to abstract thought rather seemlessly. I wonder how much of that is automatic and how much he actually has to think about when he plays?...I need to practice. Anyway, if you're reading this and you were there to here us, thank you for coming out, listening to, and supporting us. We need as much as we can get really...at least I do. If you were there for the seminar/ conference, I hope that you took something good from it and that you enjoyed the music. Well, it's Mowtown Tuesday, and I have a couple more things to do before I break down and practice. EXCELSIOR!
